There’s a couple of different places in the Bible where we hear about an unpardonable sin. Mark chapter 3, verse 29 and Matt verse I’ll read those to you, Matt 31, here’s Jesus, “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”.

Christians and The Unpardonable Sin. Humanly speaking, everyone who is a Christian is capable of committing the unforgivable sin. However, I believe that the Lord of glory who has saved us and sealed us in the Holy Spirit will never let us commit that sin. I do not believe that any Christians in the history of the church have blasphemed the Spirit.

The only unpardonable sin today is that of continued unbelief. There is no pardon for a person who dies in his rejection of Christ. The Holy Spirit is at work in the world, convicting the unsaved of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John ).

If a person resists that conviction and remains unrepentant, then he is choosing hell over heaven. This sin cannot be forgiven unlike the other sins. If one dies without receiving Christ’s forgiveness, then they die without the Holy Spirit. Hence, they die without God and without salvation.

Often people want to blame God for this, but from a big picture, God is merely giving people what they ask for.

We read about the unpardonable sin in Matthew ; Mark and in Luke In these gospel passages the unpardonable sin is called blasphemy against the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus says in Mark “I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.

Jesus’ teaching on the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit—the unpardonable sin—is found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, but in Matthew we find Jesus’ most thorough and cohesive presentation. In Matthew we read that Jesus healed a demon possessed man who was blind and mute. He gave me sun and start and aught He could. The idea of an unpardonable sin scares some people, because they believe they may have committed it, even though most of them do not have a proper understanding of what the sin actually is.

We read about the unpardonable sin in MatthewMarkand Luke The sin is the very specific sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In other words, apostasy is one form of the unpardonable sin. It is one way of deciding, after seeing God work, that God is not really good.

Therefore, you as a professing believer are safe from the unpardonable sin only if your profession is genuine—only if you have truly repented of your sin and accepted Christ as your Savior.

To commit the unpardonable sin is much more than just words. It’s an attitude of the heart that pours hatred into the person of Christ through whom the Holy Spirit worked and works still in modern day believers. To commit the unpardonable sin is to be confronted with the truth of who Christ is and utterly, hatefully reject Him as evil.

There are those who say the unpardonable sin is adultery; but it could not be, because the man after God’s own heart fell into that grievous and terrible transgression. David was an adulterer and sought to hide his sin by murder [ 2 Samuel ]. The unpardonable sin, grievous as it is, is not adultery.

The Unpardonable Sin. This is the sin against the Holy Ghost: To speak of bloody power as right divine, And call on God to guard each vile chief’s house, And for such chiefs, turn men to wolves and swine: To go forth killing in White Mercy’s name, Making the trenches stink with spattered brains, Tearing the nerves and arteries apart.

Many Bible scholars believe that this unpardonable sin cannot be committed today. They believe this sin could have only been committed back at the time when Jesus was walking on our earth.

In other words, you would have to attack Jesus direct just like the Scribes and Pharisees did to be found guilty of this sin.

Published by The Radio Bible Class in the late 's; Post Office Grand Rapids, Michigan. From a study of Matthew1 Johnand Hebrewsthe unpardonable sin is a single sin, quite visible to the unaided eye, committed only by professing Christians, only in the context of the visible church, involving repudiation of Christ by way of open contempt for and blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Based on the biblical definition, many other sins cannot be the unpardonable sin. Now for this morning, we want you to turn to Mark chapter 3 in your Scripture.

We’re a little behind, and I’ve got an awful lot to say. So, be patient. In other words, they have no interest in His forgiveness. The Pharisees mentioned by Matthew militantly hated Christ and attributed His miracles to Beelzebub, the prince of demons.

Unlike those who are afraid they have committed the unforgivable sin, the Pharisees were totally unconcerned about Christ’s forgiveness.

Mark - Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: (Read More) Luke - And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

Matthew - Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin. Hence, Jewish scholars to this day recognize the validity of Jesus' words: blasphemy is the Unpardonable Sin. In fact, the Bible only says one type of blasphemy (insult) is actually a sin: blasphemy (insult) of Yahweh in Exodusas restated in LeviticusAny other kind of blasphemy was forgiveable because it was not even a sin.

The unpardonable sin is clear: it is blasphemy or speaking against the Holy Spirit, and blasphemy, in this situation, means to attribute the power of the Holy Spirit to the work of Satan.

So if you want to make a first pass at applying this passage, read the story of Jesus’ miracle. In other words, they have no interest in His forgiveness.” “Furthermore, let me point out that those who have committed the unpardonable sin have no godly regret.

As Paul emphasizes in the book of Romans, they not only continue in their evil ways but approve of others who do so as well (Rom ). It is not even unpardonable to live a life of violence, rejecting Christ at every step. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John ). There is nothing God will not forgive if we ask Him to.
